Gourmet French Bread Pizza

Ingredients

Bread & Base

  • 1 large French bread loaf

Garlic Butter Base

  • 1 stick ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 1 head garlic
  • Fresh parsley

Sauce

  • 1 Rao's jar pizza sauce

Cheeses

  • 1.5 cups Whole-milk mozzarella Freshly chopped or shredded
  • Parmesan grated (¼ cup)
  • Ricotta whole-milk (⅓ cup)
  • Dan-O's Cheesioning

Toppings

  • ½ lb spicy Italian sausage
  • ½ red onion thinly sliced
  • Mikes Hot honey
  • 1 Habanero
  • Jalapeno
  • Anaheim Pepper
  • Fresh basil leaves

Instructions

Brown the Sausage

  • Remove sausage from casing if needed. Cook in a skillet over medium heat until browned and slightly crispy. Drain and set aside.

Make the Garlic Butter

  • In a small saucepan, melt 4 tbsp butter with 1 tbsp olive oil over medium-low heat.
  • Cut the end off a head of garlic, drizzle with olive oil and salt and roast for 40 minutes
  • Mix the roasted garlic with the melted butter

Toast the Bread

  • Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  • Slice the French bread loaf in half lengthwise and place cut-side up on a baking sheet.
  • Brush the entire surface generously with your garlic butter.
  • Bake for 5–7 minutes until lightly golden and crisp.

Add the Sauce

  • Spread a thin layer of pizza sauce (store-bought is fine) over the toasted bread — just enough to coat the surface without soaking it.

Build the Pizza

  • Layer in this order:
  • Mozzarella and Parmesan cheese
  • Crumpled spicy sausage
  • Sliced red onion and chopped peppers
  • Dollops of ricotta (about every 2–3 inches)
  • Sprinkle with Dan-O's Cheesesoning

Bake

  • Return to oven for 10–12 minutes, or until cheese is bubbling and edges are crisp.
  • Optional: Broil for 1–2 minutes for golden, blistered cheese.

Finish & Serve

  • Drizzle with hot honey while it’s still warm.
  • Top with fresh torn basil and brush crust edges with any leftover garlic butter.
  • Let it rest for 2–3 minutes before slicing.
